About

AGalban Lelo

Born in Havana City, Cuba, in 1967, Edel Alvarez Galban was always fascinated by the art work in its every manifestation for as long as he can remember. During his childhood, he demonstrated an extraordinary artistic talent in his early years and used to paint and sculpture anything around him, becoming a serious threat for furniture, walls, and appliances in every place his family visited with him. His elementary school teachers soon noticed his interest in painting, which was increasing as he was growing.

When Lucia, his daughter, was born in 2001, painting came naturally as a necessity to express his feelings and to show to the world all the colorful, modern and provocative images he kept deeply inside him for a long time. Therefore, he started painting seriously on canvas, watercolors and drawings. His style seems to be influenced by the Cubist movement, which has its best represent in Picasso, but A. Galban insists that, in despite of the similarity of his outlines with some parts of the Cubism, he recognizes himself more influenced by the Spanish painter, Joan Miro.

He has been in a couple of shows where family and friends have told him how much they like his work, inspiring him to continue and improving his technique. Most of his paintings are the result of multi media and different formats. He has several series like: People (2001), Lucias (2001-2012), The Joker (2007), Eva and Mariela (2008), Erotic Snails (2009), My Divine Comedy (2009), Songbook (2011), Leaving Cuba (2012), Psychiatry(2012), and Seavolve, Terry Brown Project(2013).

His paintings have been shown abroad in Cuba; Costa Rica; Cancun, Mexico; there are also shown in the U.S in Tampa and New York. A.Galban is currently working on two wonderful projects: Art is Everywhere and Seavolve Terry Brown Project.
